A Principled Alternative for New York

A Principled Alternative for New York By Carl Gottstein

New York is drifting further left, and the consequences are plain: families and businesses are leaving, costs keep rising, and the governing class in Albany and New York City shows little interest in reversing course. While enough voters remain to change direction, they need a political vehicle willing to confront both major parties when those parties fail the people.

The Conservative Party of New York has long performed a useful service. It has preserved a ballot line, produced legislative scorecards, and provided a reliable conservative fusion option for Republican candidates. Yet its greatest strength—its disciplined role as a partner to the Republican Party—has also become its core limitation. Too often it functions as an adjunct rather than a distinct political force with its own candidate pipeline, continuous activist infrastructure, youth recruitment, and independent cultural energy. Strength remains concentrated in certain suburban and upstate areas, with minimal footprint in New York City where progressive organizing has advanced. Messaging is frequently reactive, focused on opposing the latest Democratic or progressive excess rather than offering a positive, expansive governing vision rooted in limited, constitutional government.

Far too many elected Republicans grow comfortable in office and fail to challenge the status quo in a way that meaningfully moves the ball forward for ordinary New Yorkers. The major parties, more often than not, protect the system that sustains them. Meaningful conflict—the kind that forces accountability and real solutions—is rare. We NEED a party prepared to conflict with both major parties when they abandon the Constitution, expand government beyond its proper bounds, or place special interests ahead of the people.

Aside from what many may perceive as a confusing foreign policy; Donald Trump demonstrated what an outside-the-box, solution-based approach can achieve. He IS willing to challenge entrenched assumptions and focus on results. I am likewise solution-based. New York does not need another pressure group content to add a few percentage points to a Republican line. It needs an ideologically driven movement grounded in the constitutionality of government action—a government limited by the Constitution itself.

The Constitution Party of New York exists to meet that need.

Our purpose is not fusion for its own sake or permanent opposition for the sake of opposition. It is to restore limited government, fiscal sanity, secure borders, election integrity, and the original understanding of constitutional liberty. In a state where progressive policies continue to drive people out, we must offer a clear alternative that can attract disaffected voters, younger citizens, and those who still believe New York can be saved.

Building ballot access and organizational capacity will require hard work, principled candidates, and supporters who refuse to accept managed decline. The voters who remain can still reverse the leftward slide—but only if they have a party willing to tell the truth, challenge both major parties when necessary, and put constitutional principle ahead of political convenience.

………………….That is the work I am prepared to lead.

A Vision for New York;

New York does not have to accept managed decline. It does not have to keep losing families, businesses, and young talent to other states. The people who remain still have the power to change course—if they are offered a clear alternative rooted in limited government, constitutional principle, and practical results.

Here is the vision I offer.

  • A New York that once again rewards work, thrift, and enterprise instead of punishing them.
  • Taxes and regulations that are competitive, transparent, and limited to essential functions so that businesses stay, expand, and hire here.
  • Housing that becomes more abundant because we remove the barriers that drive up costs, rather than pretending government can price-control its way to affordability.
  • Energy that is reliable and affordable because we stop sacrificing the working family to ideology.
  • A New York that is safe. Public safety is not a progressive talking point; it is the first duty of government. We will back the police, enforce the law equally, and reject policies that treat public order as optional.
  • Parents will know their children can walk to school and ride the subway without fear.
  • A New York that educates rather than indoctrinates. Schools that focus on reading, writing, math, history, and real skills—so every child, regardless of zip code, has a genuine chance to succeed. Parents will have real choices and real authority over their children’s education.
  • A New York that respects the Constitution as the supreme law, not a suggestion; free speech, religious liberty, the right to keep and bear arms, and due process are not negotiable. Election integrity will be non-negotiable as well—secure, transparent, and trusted by the people who cast the votes.
  • A New York that welcomes people who want to contribute and build, while ending the policies that encourage lawlessness and dependency. Borders, legal immigration, and the rule of law are compatible with compassion; open chaos is not.

This is not nostalgia. It is a practical path forward. Other states have shown that lower taxes, safer streets, better schools, and respect for constitutional limits produce growth and opportunity. New York can do the same—and do it better—because of the talent, energy, and ambition still concentrated here.

The leftward drift is not inevitable. The out-migration is not permanent. The people who love this state enough to stay can still turn it around. What they need is a party and candidates willing to tell the truth, challenge both major parties when they fail, and put constitutional government and the interests of ordinary New Yorkers first. That is the work ahead. And it is work worth doing.

The Immigration Betrayal: Both Parties Have Failed Us—It’s Time for New Yorkers to Demand Accountability

Fellow New Yorkers,

As a lifelong conservative activist and proud New Yorker, I’ve watched in horror as our great state—and our nation—has been overrun by an unchecked invasion at our borders. This isn’t about compassion or diversity; it’s about survival. Our schools are bursting at the seams, our hospitals are overwhelmed, and our hard-earned tax dollars are being funneled to support millions who crossed illegally, contributing little while straining every resource we have. And who do we have to thank for this chaos? Both major parties—the Democrats and the Republicans—who have betrayed us for decades with their feckless inaction and self-serving politics.

Let’s be clear: America was built by immigrants who came legally, assimilated, and contributed to our prosperity.

But what we’re facing now is not immigration; it’s an invasion. Third World migration flooding a First World nation like ours is counterproductive, stupid, and unsustainable. We don’t need it. We don’t want it. And the American people—especially here in New York—have been screaming this from the rooftops. Yet, the Democrats have encouraged this flood with open-border policies, sanctuary cities, and amnesty dreams that reward lawbreakers. Under Governor Kathy Hochul and her Democratic allies in Albany, New York has become a magnet for illegals, with billions in taxpayer money diverted to housing, healthcare, and education for those who shouldn’t be here in the first place. They’ve turned our state into a welfare haven, all while ignoring the cries of working families struggling to make ends meet.

But don’t think the Republicans are innocent.

These so-called “conservatives” have been traitors too, bowing to big business interests that crave cheap labor at the expense of American workers. They’ve talked tough on borders during election season but folded like cheap suits when corporate donors came calling. In Congress, GOP leaders killed bipartisan reforms that could have secured our borders years ago, preferring to use the issue as a political weapon rather than solve it. Here in New York, Republican lawmakers have been spineless, offering lip service without real action, allowing the invasion to continue unchecked. Both parties created this mess through decades of neglect, and now it’s blowing up in our faces—crime rates spiking, wages suppressed, and communities fractured.

This betrayal isn’t just policy failure; it’s a direct assault on the American people.

We don’t want our borders overrun, our schools diluted, our hospitals turned into free clinics for the world. We’re not interested in subsidizing generations of non-contributors who drain our resources without giving back. What part of that don’t these politicians understand? The polls are crystal clear: a majority of Americans, including New Yorkers, see illegal immigration as a crisis and demand secure borders. Yet, both parties have refused to listen, prioritizing globalist agendas and electoral games over our sovereignty.

Enter Donald Trump—an anomaly, a once-in-a-generation disruptor who finally took decisive action. In his second term, he’s slashed illegal crossings to historic lows, ramped up deportations, and turned net migration negative for the first time in decades. But Trump won’t be around forever, and we can’t rely on anomalies to save us. That’s why, as your candidate for Governor on the Constitution Party line, I’m demanding that leaders from both parties step up and fix the disaster they’ve created. Democrats: End sanctuary policies and stop incentivizing the invasion. Republicans: Stop kowtowing to big business and enforce the laws on the books. Work together on real reform—secure borders, merit-based legal immigration, and no more amnesty for invaders.

But if they won’t act, it’s time for us, the voters, to stop supporting these failed parties.

The Constitution Party of New York stands for principle over politics: sanctity of life, liberty, property, and family—true constitutional governance that puts Americans first. We’re not beholden to special interests; we’re here to restore freedom and fight for you. Don’t waste your vote on the same old betrayers. Join us in building a movement that addresses the issues that matter most: including secure borders, fiscal responsibility, and putting New Yorkers first.
